You may have noticed some problems with the Regent marquee at the start of the New Year….the staff was a bit confused as well, until the Department of Public Works came to the rescue. A strong wind had lifted a vent cover off of the Regent roof, and it happened to land directly on the marquee! It unfortunately broke several neon tubes and damaged a transformer when it landed. But we were all relieved that no one was injured!
With the help of Tod Heckman and Al LeMaire from the city, one of the service technicians from Johnson Controls replaced and secured the cover, saving us from water damage. They were out late on a very cold night, and we really appreciate their rooftop scrambling! US Sign repaired the damage to the marquee later in the month, after taking measurements and tracings. They fixed the marquee up so well, the occasional neon flicker we had for months is gone!
We still aren’t sure how the cover managed to land where it did, but we are very thankful for the help in making sure the marquee looks great again!
