THE REGENT THEATRE

is a one-screen, Art Deco theater that first started showing movies in 1919. It is currently owned and operated by the City of Allegan and features first-run, new release films in state of the art digital projection.

The Regent boasts a glittering neon marquee that has acted as a beacon in historic downtown Allegan since its installation in the 1930s. On the backside of the brick building, a beautiful art deco-inspired mural painted by celebrated West Michigan artist José Narezo adorns the wall to create a unique picture-taking opportunity.

As you enter the chrome-handled doors into the tiled lobby, you're greeted by the glass-encased ticket booth, complete with a working, original ticket dispenser. Also on display is a fully restored 1950 Simplex XL Projector that was in use at the Regent until November of 2013. The scent of freshly popped popcorn will guide you to the old-fashioned concession stand where you can purchase quality snacks at a reasonable price. The Regent is known for its delicious popcorn, freshly popped before and during each show. Find a complete list of available concessions here.

Once you've purchased your ticket and gathered your concessions, follow the uniquely patterned carpet into the 350-seat auditorium and sit back in the comfortable and spacious seating, complete with newly installed cup holders. As you watch the movie play on one of the largest independent screens in the state of Michigan, the digital projection and surround sound will provide a state of the art viewing experience in a historic and chic movie house.

In addition to first-run feature films, the Regent Theatre offers unique film series year-round, made possible by generous local sponsors. Flashback Fridays transport audiences on the last Friday of every month to their big screen favorites. The Free Summer Matinees that run from June-August feature free family-friendly movies on a weekly basis. During the month of October, each Saturday features a different late-night horror flick as part of the Shocktober! series, and the Fa La La Fridays series provides a free holiday movie every weekend in December before Christmas.
